What’s In My Hospital Bag for Baby #2

I can’t believe that my due date is less than a month away and soon I will be a mama of two! Even though I still have some time, I wanted to pack my hospital bag early just in case this little dude wants to surprise us and come early. We live over an hour away from the hospital I am delivering at so I want to make sure we have everything ready to go so we can make it to the hospital with plenty of time to spare. I made a list with links to everything I packed for mama, baby, and dad. I included everything that I packed with my first baby, as well as things I wished I would’ve brought with me. Due to the pandemic, our hospital has a strict no visitor rule and also will not let either of us return to the hospital after we leave. We packed extra (especially with the snacks) so we would have everything we need and could be comfortable during our time there. I  hope this list is helpful to some of the expecting mamas!

Youtube video explaining every item here.

For mom:

Hospital Bag: I love using this bag for travel and it makes the perfect hospital bag!

Diaper Bag: I have both this bag and this backpack and I love them both. I got mine when Knox was born and they are still in great condition.

Bra for labor: I got this super cute and comfy bra for only $20. I wear it all the time and it is the perfect bra to wear during labor.

Nursing bra: This bra is great because it has a detachable clip so you can keep the bra on while you nurse your baby. I used this all the time PP with Knox.

Robes: I wore my robe 24/7 when I was in the hospital with my first baby. I only brought one and by the time I left, it was super dirty.  I am bringing two this time! I just got this beautiful and insanely comfy robe from Cozy Earth and I am so excited to use it PP. You can use the code IGMADDIE50 for 50% off. I also got this black robe and it is super soft.

Long Sleeve PJ set: I forgot to bring pajamas last time and I regretted it my whole stay! I love these ones because they are insanely soft, cute and the button-down top is great for nursing. The hospital was freezing so I wanted to bring long sleeves for sleeping. Code IGMADDIE50 for 50% off.

Short-Sleeve PJS: I wanted to bring a second set of PJ’s in case I get the other one’s dearth with milk stains, blood, or food. I brought a short sleeve set as well because some women get hot flashes after birth. Code IGMADDIE50 for 50% off.

T-shirt dress: I am bringing this simple and flowy dress to leave the hospital in.

Blanket: I was freezing all night last time and the nurses had to bring me tons of little blankets to keep me warm. I wish I had brought my own to keep me cozy!

Wet brush: This is my favorite brush of all time

Mini shampoo and conditioner: Some women like using dry shampoo, but I personally was dying to shower. I was so glad I brought shampoo and conditioner with me.

Face Cleanser:  My go-to cleanser. Code MADDIE for 15% off.

Slippers and socks: It is so nice to have socks and slippers to keep your feet warm when you are walking around the hospital

Madela nipple gels: My nipples got so cracked and sore from nursing the first day. The nurse brought me these and they helped a ton! I bought extra for PP/ in case the hospital doesn’t have them.

Boppy : This nursing pillow is amazing PP! I used it every single day for months. I didn’t bring it with me to the hospital last time and I wish I would have.

Frida mom (full kit): The hospital will provide everything you need, but I heard that Frida mom is even better. You will also want to have these things for when you go back home from the hospital.

Frida Mom Maxi Ice Pads: I got these at my baby shower and my friend swore by them! Icing your cooch helps with healing so much and these are convenient and effective.

Frida Mom Upside Down Peri Bottle: After you deliver you can’t wipe down under with toilet paper for a while. A lot of my friends swore that this bottle was way better than the hospitals.

Tucks Witch Hazel Pads: I put these in my pads PP to help heal my swollen coochie. I have heard that they also work wonders with Hemroids.

Yetti 32 Oz Tumblr: I was SO thirsty after I delivered and every single time I nursed. I wish I would have brought my Yetti with me because I was constantly asking for cups of water. This will also be so convenient for long nursing sessions at home.

Nursing pads: When the milk comes in, your boobs will constantly leak milk. These pads saved me from doing so much unnecessary laundry.

For Baby:

Stroller/ Car Seat: The Doona is by far my #1 most recommended baby product! I SWEAR by this thing! It is a car seat that transforms into a stroller with just one click of a button. Knox just outgrew it, so now we will use it with this baby.

Sleeper Gown: I brought 3 outfits + a white onesie in case he spit up/ pooped on his clothes. I love sleeper gowns because it’s super easy to change their diapers.

Hat: I always used hats, in the beginning, to keep him warm, especially in the freezing hospital.

Plain White Baby Onesie: I brought one with me as a backup outfit.

Cozys Knotted Gown: This is the outfit we first put Knox in when he was born. We wanted to recreate his baby photos with his brother.

Tie-Dye Newborn Sleep onesie: I just ordered this and love it!

Swaddle: I bring my own swaddles too because I think they are softer and cuter than the hospital ones.

Hello, My Name Is Sign: We just got this in the mail today and it is so cute! We bought it to reveal his name.

Burp Cloth: I believe the hospital provides these, but I wanted to back one just in case.

 For Dad:

  • Pillow and blanket: We forgot to bring Cole his own pillow and blanket last time and he slept horribly! We both are bringing our own this time.

  • 10 Foot Charger: This is convenient to have so you can charge your phone while you facetime friends/ family and take photos. It reached all the way to the hospital bed.

  • Camera: I still look at Knox’s newborn photos we took in the hospital almost weekly. I am bringing the camera so we can snap special photos, especially because we can’t have a photographer or videographer come.

  • Memory Card: We brought an empty memory card so it’s all clear and ready to go.

  • Camera charger

  • Laptop

  • iPhone Tripod: We didn’t have a videographer/ photographer come when Knox was born because we wanted to have a special moment with just the two of us. We still wanted to have a video that we could go back and watch and share with family, so we set up a tripod. I am SO grateful that we did this because we cherish that video so much! We will definitely be doing it again.

  • Pj set: These loungewear joggers are super comfy. Code IGMADDIE50 for 50% off

  • Clothes for the next day

  • Socks/ slippers: It is nice to have warm slippers for walking around.

 Other

  • Portable speaker: We brought this so I could listen to music while laboring. I was SO glad I had it because it made the whole environment really peaceful and calm.

  • Birth Playlist: I listened to this while I labored.

  • Snacks (banana chips, granola bars, dried mangos, acai chocolate, granola)

  • Mints

  • Gum

  • Toothbrush

  • Toothpaste

  • Socks

  • Lotion

  • Downloaded movies

  • Extra face masks

  • Hair ties
